The ms Nieuw Amsterdam
of the Holland America Line.
On board at Vancouver.
Welcome on board the MS Nieuw Amsterdam. These three pictures give
some idea of what our room looked like and was located forward on the Boat Deck, that's
three decks down from the top and we were directly below the Navigation Room. Our view was
almost the same as that of the Captain's.
These first two pictures are of Canada Place, built for Vancouver's Expo. It is used for the loading and unloading of all the many cruise ships that pass through Vancouver's busy ship yards.
This sequence is of Vancouver as we head out into the Burrard Inlet. We then passed Stanley Park and passed through English Bay. Finally, out into the Georgia Strait, visible in the last picture. It too has much beauty to offer, as demonstrated by this picture of one of the many mountains that rise up behind Vancouver.
Unfortunately we were about to experience a day and a half of some of the West coast's worst weather with high winds and low-lying clouds mixed with plenty of rain, so where unable to enjoy it too much until our return trip which was hot and sunny.
That second day the waves were very high but thanks to the ships stabilizers we were able to get around the ship without too much difficulty, if you don't mind bouncing off the walls too much! I sure would not have wanted to experience it without those stabilizers!
